Celebrating Fathers and Families on Father’s Day 2021
Each year when Father’s Day rolls around, we post a blog about fatherhood. This year, I’m sharing comments from Conduent colleagues. Each one is a State Disbursement Unit (SDU) Project Manager in the Child Support Services Division. I asked these four fathers to share how working in child support has affected their thoughts about their own fathers or how it affects the ways that they approach their daily work of processing child support payments. Here are their thoughtful replies:
Mark Groves, Illinois SDU Manager
I have been working in child support for more than 20 years. I have two daughters who grew up watching, listening, and asking questions about how my work helps Illinois families. Over the years their questions became more thoughtful. I strive to show them that I work hard to make sure that every child support payment we touch is handled with professionalism and a sense of urgency. It is important that they see I am working as hard for the community as I do for my own family, taking my responsibilities seriously and setting an example for them.
Orlando Parker, Alabama SDU Manager
Family is the single most important influence in a child’s life. My father served in the Armed Forces and my image of him standing there in his uniform has stayed with me. Even when my father departed to fulfill his military duties, my brothers and I never felt desolate. We knew we were loved. He served with commitment and taught us that serving his country and serving others was important. He set a great example. Working in areas that serve children and families for over 20 years has been the most rewarding component of my career. I am honored to be a part of an organization committed to providing resources to families and children.
Nell Jean-Jacques, New Hampshire SDU Manager
Thirteen years ago I joined a network of incredibly talented and compassionate individuals who share the common goal of serving children and families throughout our nation. We produce timely and accurate work because we genuinely care about our clients, their constituents, and others who depend on these payments. As a family man myself, I know how important it is to ensure that your family’s needs are met. It feels really good to assist payers in sending payments to children who depend upon their support.
Gary Rogowski, Wisconsin SDU Manager
Like every father, I want my own children to grow up being happy, productive, and secure. To accomplish this goal, I try to provide love, attention, and understanding, and I work hard to meet their basic needs. One important way to do this is to provide simple financial security. Working in the child support industry provides me great personal and professional satisfaction. I know that each day I am helping many fathers provide for the economic stability of their children, ensuring that their kids can be kids by ensuring one less worry in their day.
