New Solutions Streamline Jury Administration in Manatee County, Florida

Citizens expecting jury duty to be like a scene from the T.V. crime drama Law & Order might be disappointed. More often than not, jury duty involves tedious paperwork with long lines at the courthouse because aging legacy systems impede a courts ability to provide top-notch service to jurors.

These outdated, non-configurable legacy systems are unable to grow and change generating problems such as glitches issuing payments to jurors or delays getting paperwork to judges. It also lengthens the check-in process for jurors and creates unnecessary data entry for staff. But that’s all a thing of the past for residents summoned to jury duty in Manatee County, Florida.

The Manatee County Clerk’s office recently replaced its legacy system with AgileJury software from Xerox. The new jury management system is a one-stop shop for interacting with jurors and a full end-to-end system. It offers jurors the option to complete much of the check-in process online ahead of time, considerably speeding up the day-of check-in. Among other improvements, the new system allows for faster last minute address changes and payment details along with easier completion of bio forms and requests for excusal or postponements. You can learn more about the new jury management system and its benefits for citizens and staff in our case study here.

In the first 60 days of implementation, the Manatee County Clerk’s office received 50 percent fewer incoming phone calls and eight percent of users required no clerk intervention. In my opinion, the biggest long-term benefits will come in the way of time savings, cost savings, self-sufficiency, and efficiencies that will allow staff to better meet deadlines and focus on more important constituent-based tasks.
